DJ 0.0000001 featured in Brad Bitt's latest mix

Aside from the horrid cover art, this new mix by Brad Bitt is really good. It's in the "glitch hop" vein. It also features parts of 3 different DJ 0.000001 remixes (J-Kwon, NWA & Ween). But Brad does a good job of re-working a lot of this stuff into brand new songs - check it out.

Also Brad Bitt did an awesome remix of my song "Shocky Guy Go" to be released in the future...

The Psychological Effect of the Santa Claus Myth

Is it healthy to have your kids believe in Santa Claus?  This tradition which we so commonly practice seems a little questionable, doesn't it?  To build up a false reality in the child's mind, allow them to dream about it for years, only to later have it revealed as a grand conspiracy of deception?  A deception with no logical purpose?  What is this teaching kids?

Alison Gopnik, professor of psychology at UC Berekely claims that children intuitively know the difference between pretending and reality, and states that children love Santa Claus "Because they like to pretend. And when children pretend, they are exercising the evolutionarily crucial human ability to envision alternative ways the world could be. In adults that ability is at the core of our very real capacities for invention and innovation."  (Blah, blah, blah...)  Sorry, Alison, but that's just not so.  Kids love Santa because he gives them toys and candy.  And he is not pretend to the kids.  As an ex-child myself, I think that many children do believe in Santa, 100 percent.

But even if we take Alison's description of children's relationship to the Santa mythology to be true, then we can still ask, what is the point of this elaborate game?  Even the US postal service has pledged to "deliver" all letters addressed to "Santa Claus - North Pole".  (What happens to these letters, I wonder.)   We're going through a lot of trouble to perpetuate this myth, so what are our children gaining by it?

I have a theory that most adults subconsciously fear the boundless realms of the imagination, because we know that enough imaginative thinking could destroy the order by which our reality is shaped, and could lead to the unraveling of integral systems of government, transportation, economics, etc.

The practice of building and then destroying the Santa Claus mythology within a child's mind is an effective way of destroying children's faith in their own imagination.  Children inevitably learn that Santa is a lie, and when they do they feel tricked.  In order to avoid feeling this way again, they avoid using their imagination.  They will most likely be more skeptical and close-minded to fantastical ideas, concepts and alternate realities.

But maybe it's a healthy amount of skepticism.  Maybe kids need to learn a distinction between imagination and reality, and the Santa Claus drama helps to define that.

What do you think?

DJ 0.000001: Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince RMX

Originally released as part of Magical Bass Episode #6, my remix of "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince has been released today by Fresh yO!  It's free, so get it you scavengers!

BTW, none of you will care about this, I imagine, but I totally failed at making cover art for this single.  I spent hours working on it though so I feel the need to share some of my drafts with you...  cause then I will somehow feel that my time may not have been completely wasted.

Th' Mole Retaliates - WHOA!

The fans (okay, 2 people) said that the horrible "Fuck Th' Mole" song by Sickrime Komitty couldn't go without a response from me, so I did it!  Beat by Père Dodudaboum of Le Pingouin.

Mutamigradaptation 2010 (FREE ALBUM!)

Hectic Recs has re-released my exquisite 2006 album, Mutamigradaptation, including a brand new track list!  This version includes the rarely heard gems "Suicide City" and "We Control Everything (Original Version)" as well as favorites such as "Not Too Punk (Mochi Mix)" and "Mutate Or Die".

I recorded most of this while living in New Orleans, and I think you can hear the darkness in the music.  It's quite a bit more serious than some of my more recent stuff, but I think it's good.  What do you think??

Download it for free at http://hecticrecs.bandcamp.com

Edit:
actually that's a lie about recording most of this in new orleans.  i remember now, i recorded most of it in oakland where i lived in a tiny room with no windows underneath a staircase in a warehouse with no heat.  my bed was directly below a toilet, the details of which could be heard shockingly clearly.  it was very romantic the few times that i had a woman there.  anyway, maybe that's where the darkness came from. :)

BUCKY JOJO IS HERE!

One day Th' Mole was sending some instrumental songs to a record label called New Cocoon. While trying to choose song titles, he hit upon a silly idea: the songs would be titled as if they were part of a film score - a film that didn't exist.

But once the songs were titled, Th' Mole decided to write a short film script to accompany the score. Three or four minutes later, Bucky Jojo had been written.

However, still not content to rest on his laurels (his laurels being sharp and uncomfortable to rest upon anyway), Th' Mole went ahead and filmed the movie.

Once the 3.5 minute-long epic had been edited, Th' Mole was able to sit back and look over his glorious creation, and then he decided that the original songs which had inspired the project were simply not up to snuff. So he went back and remixed/edited them into pure gold.

And now... you get to experience the Bucky Jojo sight and sound extravaganza, for free!  (Or you can not be a selfish jerk and donate some money.)  :)   Go download the whole package at http://newcocoon.com or http://thmole.bandcamp.com today!

Track list:
01. Main Title/Bucky Jojo Theme
02. Enchanted Mirror Theme
03. Demon Fight Theme
04. Wounded But Victorious Walk Home Theme

Bonus items:
* Bucky Jojo - the movie
* Bucky Jojo - the preview
* Bucky Jojo - the script
* Bucky Jojo - the cast photo

New free song + Contest to win a copy of Th' Mole's new album

Here is a concept you probably never heard of: the "post-mashup".  Invented by the Indianapolis-based producer, stAllio!, the post-mashup takes multiple songs and weaves them into one new song, but unlike a traditional mashup which layers songs on top of one another, a post-mashup features multiple song snippets without any layering, intricately re-sequenced into new melodies and rhythms.

I heard some of stAllio!'s post-mashups and I thought they were pretty cool and unique, so I asked him to do one for me.  Comprised of eight of my songs (I think), "Spell To Kill Dancefloors" is free to LISTEN/DOWNLOAD HERE (option-click to DL).

CONTEST!!!

GUESS ANY 4 OF THE 8 SONGS USED IN "SPELL TO KILL DANCEFLOORS" AND WIN A FREE COPY OF TH' MOLE'S NEW ALBUM (+ 3 VIDEOS) - SUPERMAN VS. GREMLINS! TIP: 3 OF THE SONGS ARE ON THE GREATEST HITS (HA HA HA) VOL. 1 ALBUM AND 3 ARE ON THE SUPERMAN VS. GREMLINS ALBUM.

Th' Mole: Superman Vs. Gremlins (album + videos) - Listen/Buy

Superman Vs. Gremlins, the latest offering from futuristic mutant rapper Th' Mole, is a freaky collection of new songs, remixes and videos, including guests Graz, Demune, Vankmen, Oskar Ohslon, Warrior Queen, Playpad Circus and more.

The album title comes from Th' Mole's life-long obsessions with Superman and the movie Gremlins. While the videos revisit some of his childhood writing and drawings, the album as a whole is a testament to the shameless and unadulturated nature of childlike creativity and entertainment. Indeed, the music runs the gamut from psychedelic-country-electro-rap to a'capella chanting, without any apparent regard for retaining a certain sound throughout. Additionally, Th' Mole introduces us to "frankenremixes" which are essentially single songs stitched together from multiple remixes of that song. However unconventional it may be though, Superman Vs. Gremlins remains thoroughly accessible and engaging, and is certain to please all lovers of finely-crafted and unique music.

Track list:
1. Black Helly (Cartoon Monster & Oskar Ohslon Frankenremix)
2. How 2 B Cool (Threepeeoh & Playpad Circus Frankenremix)
3. Jump Jack ft. Warrior Queen (Frankenremix A - Barely Legal)
4. Jump Jack ft. Warrior Queen (Frankenremix B - Gurp)
5. Tick Tick Blam (Graz & Vankmen Frankenremix)
6. Cha Cha Cha ft. Demune (Ease & 486Kid Frankenremix)
7. Th' Picture
8. A Meticulous Fondle (Extended Remix)

Video list:
1. Goofy Vs. Gremlins
2. Superman Vs. Gremlins
3. Superman Vs. Gremlins II: Electric Slime

I Luv Unicorns (Bombsquad Remix) + free compilation

This dude, Frietboer, who I met in Amsterdam, made this remix of I Luv Unicorns for me.  I told him that his music reminded me of The Bomb Squad (the production team behind Public Enemy), so he called the remix the "Bombsquad Remix.  BTW, Frietboer means french fry cook, I believe.  Anyway, the guy just released a compilation, also featuring Ernst Benjamin, Omi, Reflexionist, Brad Hamers, Unannounced Guest, Rude - D, Jason, U.N.O.M, and Onderhonden.

DJ 0.000001 from beyond the grave...

While we're busy readying the new 100-minute long episode of Magical Bass, w/ your new host, me - Th' Mole, here's something to tide you over.  I know you all simply can't function without your regular dose of Magical Bass.  I found this track in DJ 0.000001's laptop.  Apparently he decided this wasn't worth releasing, but I figure he can't be too embarrassed of it, since he's dead and all.  RIP.

DJ 0.000001 - Andy Daly Vs. Rappy McRapperson by magicalbass

This track features music by Rappy McRapperson, overlaid with a comedy routine by Andrew Daly, who also plays Terrence Cutler on Eastbound & Down - a hilarious show that I recommend to all.

Th' Mole on 2 new compilations

in case you're not into my new "christian lo-fi alt-country indie-folk" sound, you may be interested in a couple compilations that just came out.

this one is free - it's actually 3 ep's - all of them containing remixes of the same song. don't worry - it's an awesome song. my remix is on #2 - it's pretty different for me - kind of a "dub" song i guess. you can download all the ep's at freshyolabel.com

this one isn't free but it's got 66 songs on it! more info/buy it here.
